Some Common and Highly Nutritional Herbs

Alfalfa is so high in vitamins and minerals that it is actually easier to list what it doesn’t have. It lacks only vitamin B1, P and T. It has everything else! Alfalfa is noteworthy for an exceptional amount of trace minerals, for having all eight essential amino acids, all eight essential digestive enzymes, and for being so high in vitamins A, K, and D, and calcium, iron and potassium. It increases energy and endurance and helps digestion and the assimilation of calcium, protein and other nutrients. It is a body cleanser, natural deodorizer, builder, a digestive aid, and infection fighter.

Chickweed is known to promote regularity. It helps to tone and strengthen the digestive system. It is known to soothe ulcers and inflamed bowels, dissolve plaque and excess fat from blood vessels. It has been written up as an effective anti-cancer agent. It is also a blood purifier and assists the skin in looking more clean and beautiful.

Kelp is a rich source of vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B6, B12 (and every other B-complex), C, G, K, and S. It contains at least 28 minerals, including every trace mineral, large amounts of iodine, and is able to feed the glandular system and help digest food by assisting the thyroid and other glands that affect digestion by stimulating the digestive secretions of the stomach and pancreas. Kelp feeds the pituitary, thus affecting the entire body. It stimulates metabolism and helps burn up excess calories. It helps remove plaque from the arteries, gall bladder and kidneys. It is very good for complexion, wrinkles, and skin. Kelp cleanses and strengthens the entire system. It’s a good herb for asthma, diabetes, eczema, and goiter.  Dandelion is one of the richest sources of vitamins and minerals in the herb kingdom. It is high in vitamins A, C, E, and the B vitamins, potassium, calcium, and organic sodium. It is effective in alkalizing our bodies, is a blood purifier and helps eliminate anemia. It also cleanses and stimulates the liver and helps hypoglycemia, rheumatism, and problems of the gall bladder, spleen and stomach.

Shavegrass (Horsetail) is high in silica, which helps the body assimilate calcium. It is rich in selenium, panthothenic acid, copper, manganese, cobalt, iron, and iodine. It contains vitamin E and is good for circulation, the bladder, glands, kidneys, liver, hair, fingernails, and thyroid. According to Dr. Kervran, silica is easily transmuted into calcium.1

Rosehips are very rich in the B-complexes as well as vitamins A, E, C, and rutin. It also contains vitamins D and P. Very good for the skin, rosehips are high in iron, calcium, potassium, and silica. It helps stop infections, dizziness, cramps, colds, cancer, psoriasis, and stress. It is also known to be a blood purifier.

Yellow Dock is 40% iron, which is necessary for oxygen transport. The best overall tonic for the entire system. It is used to treat anemia, cancer, leprosy, leukemia and should be used for AIDS. A good liver and spleen herb, yellow dock is a major blood purifier and builder that also stimulates the elimination channels (especially the skin) and promotes the elimination of excess lymph. It is one of the herbs we were using in the Sierras that made all of our formulas possible.

Irish Moss has an exceptionally high content of nutrients. It supplies vitamins A, D, E, F, and K and is high in iodine (one mineral not found in most diets), calcium, and sodium. Irish Moss also contains phosphorous, potassium, organic sulphur, plus 15 of the 18 elements that compose the body. It is good for the bladder, intestines, and glands (especially the thyroid). It aids the body in fighting bronchitis, cancer, goiter, tumors, varicose veins, and lung and joint ailments.

Hawthorn Berry has been used for centuries in treating heart disease; it prevents arteriosclerosis and helps strengthen heart muscles. It is good for the heart valves and for fast, weak or enlarged hearts. Good for angina, pectoris and difficult breathing caused by ineffective heart acidity and lack of oxygen, hawthorn berry is an antiseptic and is good for the kidneys. It helps high and low blood pressure, rheumatism, hypoglycemia and arthritis. It is said that those who consistently take hawthorn berry and cayenne will have a strong heart. It probably will help prevent heart attacks, and if such should occur, it is unlikely that they would suffer much damage.

Licorice Root is in this combination primarily because it helps balance the other herbs chemically (assisting pH levels). It gives better flavor to this formula, and energy and endurance to the system. Licorice root contains vitamin E, B-complex, lecithin, manganese, and zinc. Good for hypoglycemia and the removal of age spots and drugs from the body, it is also known to improve circulation and cleanse the blood, bronchials, throat, and lungs. It is a very gentle glandular stimulant.

Marshmallow Root is a great healing herb; it is known as a potent anti-inflammatory and anti-irritant for the joints and the gastrointestinal tract. Marshmallow is also protective and healing in the irritations related to diarrhea and dysentery. Marshmallow contains an exceptionally high level of Vitamin A, is very high in calcium, and is extremely rich in zinc. It also contains iron, sodium, iodine, B-complex, and pantothenic acid.
